Real close on Keane capture
By Peter ORourke - Created on 11 Dec 2005
Roy Keane could be set to end speculation over his future by signing for
Real Madrid.
Reports emanating from Spain claim Keane is close to signing a
short-term deal at El Santiago Bernabeu and that he has even undergone a medical at the Spanish giants.
The Irishman has been weighing up his options after sensationally
quitting Manchester United last month.
A host of clubs have been chasing the former Republic of Ireland
international with Keane proving an attractive proposition because of
his free transfer status.
Keane was thought to be holding out for a move to boyhood heroes Celtic,
but it appears they are struggling to finance a deal for the midfielder.
Everton, Bolton, West Ham, Portsmouth and Middlesbrough have all
expressed an interest in him, but it appears Real are to win the race
for his signature.
President Florentino Perez is believed to be a big fan of Keane and is
ready to offer him a six-month deal until the end of the season with his
position being reviewed at the end of the campaign.
Should Keane join Real he will link up again with former United
team-mate David Beckham and his arrival would provide a massive lift for
Real in the second half of the season as they battle for honours in the
UEFA Champions League and La Liga.
